Skills and experience

John started his career as a chartered accountant, working at Ernst & Young between 1989 and 1996, before joining 3i Group and helping to found 3i Infrastructure. From 2009–2017, John was a managing director of First Reserve, where he helped found its energy infrastructure business. At First Reserve, John oversaw numerous investments into the energy sector including energy-from -waste, wind and solar power plants, gas-fired power plants and energy backup and served as non-executive chair of four renewable energy investments.

In addition to his position at Cory, John is a non-executive director of Anglian Water Group, the holding company of Anglian Water Services, and Selkie Investments Midstream Topco, the parent company of North Sea Midstream Partners.

Ben has been with Cory since 2010 and was appointed CFO in 2019. Ben is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London as well as an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.

Jason leads deal origination and execution and contributes to asset management in Europe for Fiera Infrastructure, based in London. Jason has extensive experience, acquired during more than 19 years in infrastructure and investment industries. Prior to joining Fiera, Jason worked at Standard Life Capital, the private markets business of Standard Life, where he focused on the sourcing, due diligence and monitoring of direct infrastructure investment opportunities. He originated the majority of portfolio company investments for Standard Life Capital Infrastructure, its infrastructure fund. Before joining SL Capital, Jason worked for 15 years in the infrastructure sector, dealing with energy infrastructure, regulated utilities and PPPs with Impax Asset Management, Infrared Capital Partners, Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, as well as PwC. Jason holds a Commerce degree from Monash University in Australia and is certified as a chartered accountant (ICAA).

Bill draws upon skills and experience gleaned from a career spanning more than 30 years. Whilst a specialist in the management of infrastructure related investments, his breadth of skills encompasses the establishment, acquisition, financing and disposal of businesses across a range of infrastructure sectors. This experience includes significant involvement in the fields of public–private partnerships, renewable energy, utilities, transport, real estate and banking sectors, both in the UK and across the globe. The most recent phase of his career has seen him take on several non-executive roles.

Mark has more than 30 years’ experience in the power industry. Most recently he served as Chief Executive of PeakGen, which he co-founded in 2010. Prior to joining PeakGen, Mark’s career encompassed a broad range of managerial and engineering roles in the power business and particularly at PowerGen plc – the UK energy business with an annual turnover in excess of £6bn. Ultimately, he served as the Managing Director of Powergen’s Generation business, where he was responsible for more than 9,000MW of power generating assets (conventional and CHP) and also for the development of the new Renewable business. He has served as a Non-Executive Director of Slough Heat & Power Ltd and Renewable Power & Light plc. Mark is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He holds a master’s degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Cambridge University and has attended executive training programmes at Wharton and Harvard business schools.

Alistair is the Chief Investment Officer of Dalmore Capital and has more than 20 years’ experience in the infrastructure sector. Since 2009, Dalmore Capital, under Alistair’s direction, has invested more than £5bn of long-term investors’ money into core infrastructure. Previously, as part of a team, Alistair has invested in infrastructure at several leading financial institutions, including Merrill Lynch, 3i Group, Noble and Company and Edison Capital. Alistair began his career in 1997 with British Linen Bank and holds an honours degree in Engineering. Alistair is Director of several Dalmore Capital group companies and investments, including Tideway.

Andrew is the Managing Director of Semperian Capital Management, responsible for investments, equity and debt fundraising and the overall performance of the Semperian Group. He has worked as a project finance specialist for 25 years, with a background in major global energy, water and infrastructure projects. More recently, Andrew has focused on UK private finance initiatives (PFI), taking responsibility for one of the largest PFI companies in the UK. Andrew has also undertaken more than £1bn of equity fundraising, £2bn of portfolio leverage and numerous project acquisition finances. Andrew is registered as a general representative with the FCA.

Scott is a Director at Swiss Life Asset Managers with over 30 years’ experience in the infrastructure sector spanning across design, construction and operations, due diligence, financing, acquisition and the disposal of investments. For the last 20 years, he has focused on the asset management of the investments for several infrastructure funds, acting as a Director on these investments. Scott’s experience covers all infrastructure sectors, with significant involvement in transport, utilities, renewable energy and energy from waste, and public–private partnerships both in the UK and across the globe. Prior to joining Swiss Life Asset Managers, he was responsible for the performance of John Laing’s global portfolio of infrastructure investments. Scott is a Chartered Engineer and holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southampton and an MBA from University College Dublin.

With more than 20 years’ senior leadership experience across the public and private sectors, Dougie has developed, acquired, sold and operated several major national infrastructure and public service businesses. He started his career in the British Army, with tours in Northern Ireland and Iraq. He was on the board of Interserve before joining Cory as Chief Executive Officer. He is a Director on the Environmental Services Association Board and holds an honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Edinburgh.

George is a Director at Dalmore Capital and has over 8 years’ experience within the infrastructure sector. Prior to joining Dalmore Capital, George worked at EY within their infrastructure M&A practice, advising clients on transactions and finance raisings within the sector. George holds an Economics degree from Durham University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland. He is also a Director on a number of other Dalmore Capital investments including a large operating renewables portfolio and transmission assets.
